Weather Analyst | PHSU Student | MTO (88M) @ U.S. Army National Guard | Science Content Creator | NOAA WRN Ambassador | NWS Skywarn Storm Spotter | CoCoRaHS Volunteer
My name is Dayron Pérez. I was born in Yauco, Puerto Rico, “La Ciudad del Café” (The Coffee City), in 2004. From a very young age, I have always been a big fan of science. My favorite topics, programs, and documentaries were always related to tornadoes and hurricanes.
In 2016, I started my own Facebook community to share my passion for meteorology, mainly covering the hurricane season. Over the years, I have become involved in this large community and have always aimed to educate and inform rigorously. I've been an editor for several prominent sites in Puerto Rico, such as ‘Weather News PR’ and ‘Centro Meteorológico de Puerto Rico y el Caribe’.
Currently, I am the administrator of my own weather page on social media, with an audience of approximately 20,000 followers (FB), and one of the communities (groups) with nearly half a million members from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean: "Temporada de Huracanes".
In 2021, I was certified as a trained storm spotter under the National Weather Service (NWS) Skywarn program through COMET/Ed. In 2023, I established the first precipitation data collection station in the municipality of Yauco, Puerto Rico, under the CoCoRaHS program, whose data is shared with the National Weather Service. Similarly, my website (cnmetwx) was accepted as an ambassador for NOAA's Weather-Ready Nation program, highlighting my commitment to disseminating timely and accurate information.
In the summer of 2023, I participated in a virtual camp organized by Puertorriqueños en las Ciencias Atmosféricas y Meteorología (PCAM), led by meteorologist Fernanda Ramos Garcés, and in partnership with the EcoExploratorio: Puerto Rico Science Museum, led by meteorologist and WAPA Media weather chief Ada R. Monzón. In 2024, I took an advanced Skywarn course with experts from the National Weather Service (NWS) office in New Orleans/Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
On April 20, 2024, I had the opportunity to see the inside of a hurricane hunter aircraft at the Rafael Hernández Airport event in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, as well as to meet and talk with Puerto Rican meteorologists Deborah Martorell (TeleOnce), Ada Monzón (WAPA), and Zamira Mendoza (Telemundo PR), and with Nelson Ortega of the Caribbean Astronomy Society (Sociedad de Astronomía del Caribe) at the solar observation event. On August 24, I also met WAPA Media meteorologists Suheily López Belén and Carlos Omar Rivera at the EcoExploratorio Hurricane Tour event in Plaza del Caribe, Ponce, Puerto Rico.
In 2025, I obtained two certifications in education about tsunamis and tsunami maps of Puerto Rico through the Puerto Rico Tsunami Education portal of the Puerto Rico Seismic Network (PRSN). Then, during the month of November, I took a certification in Meteorological and Climatological Data Processing and Analysis, under the direction of Ángel Hernández, MSc, from Mexico City (CDMX). I joined the US Army National Guard in mid-2025, completing my BCT at Fort Jackson, SC, and my AIT at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, in late-fall, earning my MOS as a Motor Transport Operator (88M).
2026 marks a decade since I first joined the meteorological community. I am currently continuing my studies so that I can continue to communicate effectively, learn more about meteorological phenomena, and share this knowledge with others, thereby contributing to a better planet for future generations.
A few facts about me: I don't always get along with everyone, and I accept that. Honesty, frankness, and telling it like it is are part of my values. I prefer the plain truth to momentary pleasure, and I act consistently even when it makes people uncomfortable. I love walking around my island, going to the beach, and enjoying the sunsets. The person I admire most and have followed for many years is the renowned storm chaser, Reed Timmer. I love clouds and the northern lights, as well as stargazing. My favorite TV shows are "The 100," "Dark," and "Stranger Things." I also studied nursing for a year and spent some time studying graphic design, experiences that contributed to my personal and creative growth.
That's a little bit about me. It's a pleasure to connect with you! If you have any suggestions, questions, or concerns, feel free to write them in the comments, through my Messenger inbox, or via email, and I will respond as soon as possible. This space is also open to promotions and announcements.
Follow my weather page on so you don't miss out on weather discussions and alerts, and everything new coming up for the next year, 2026.
